was searching a way to set this in vlc and found this thread. I hope this gets implemented. For netbooks with small screens or large view screens from 2+ monitors... it's a very necessary setting.

I read somewhere there's a setting to change preview options so it was the reason I'm asking. I appreciate your excellent explanation and sad to hear it won't be supported.
Hi... I have manage to set the "open with" to default to vlc but however The preview option doesn't seem to let me set vlc or any program. It automatically tries to open the file with it appears quicktime but since it can't play divx type avi files it keeps trying to load. I'm using mac ox...
I've tried searching but not getting the right search but I really like the windows media 6.4 interface where in full screen it can autohide a mini player controls.
Is there anyway to make it act like windows media player 6.4?
