VLC 2 plays video at native size, stays fullscreen after :-(

Postby Wizardling » 08 Mar 2012 10:47

VLC 2 seems to have some very strange and rather nonsensical new defaults - unlike previous versions, it begins playback of video at the native size instead of fullscreen (which I then have to manually change to), then after playback has ended it stays at fullscreen - which escape will not back out of (only when video is playing does escape work, not after... even stranger), only Command-F works then.

I'm not sure I understand the sense of starting playback at native size or staying fullscreen where one can do nothing afterwards. Was this intentional?

FYI - just tried deleting prefs and setting playback to start fullscreen. This is still ignored. Fullscreen is also still not exited once playback finishes. So it's not a bad prefs issue, though VLC obviously isn't respecting some of it's own preferences :-( I've also tried this on a couple different Macs now - same result which is very disappointing.

Are you on Lion? If so try disabling Lion's native Fullscreen mode in the preferences and restart VLC.

You seem to be using the 64bit build of VLC (or the universal binary in 64bit mode) on Mac OS X 10.6.8, which shows the described behavior. This will be fixed in VLC 2.0.1, which will be out shortly. For the meantime, you can use the 32bit build targetting Mac OS X 10.5 available on videolan.org, which doesn't include this bug.

(the 64bit build on OS X Lion isn't affected either, it's just 64bit on 10.6.)

No, OS X 10.6.8 here. Lion takes OS X down a path I find less usable, so sadly I'm avoiding newer versions of OS X.

Ah, thanks - I'll wait for the update then :-)
