ac3 dts - 5.1 issue (overloaded center speaker)

Postby ac3prob » 06 Mar 2012 23:20

Hi all,

I have a problem with vlc 1.1.12 for mac.

When playing avi or mkv with 5.1 sound i get great surround effects. However, the speach coming out of the center speaker is choppy and not good. It sounds like the center speaker is broken or overloaded, i.e., its not a nice listening to.

I use s/pdif when availible "auto" and have setup my sound system with hdmi cable. The problem is not solved by changing my sound settings from encoded sound to 6 channels.

I´ve read that for windows there is a setting "wave32 output" which my be the solution to my problem but i can´t find this setting in Mac.

Please help!!! I´ve spent countless hours trying to work this one out.

Try VLC 2.0? It has a couple of audio fixes. Also make sure you are on the latest OS version (10.7.3 assuming Lion) as it can change audio behavior.

Thanks for your reply.

Specs:
MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac OS X 10.6.8

I´ve installed vlc 2.0. Is there any specific settings i should change.
I should also say that i have a regular hdmi cable (miniport) connected.

All the best!
