virtual box ubuntu vlc git not working

I have installed virtual box on my windows 7 machine and then installed ubuntu on it. I have configured my network as NAT under PCnet-FAST III type. I am trying to execute following line to get the latest source for VLC.

git clone git://git.videolan.org/vlc.git. But Ubuntu spits out error after a while saying,

git.videolan.org[0.88.191.250.118]: errno-connection timedout
fat:unable to connect a socket (connection timed out)

Can you please help me out on this. I am trying to download vlc 2.0 version.
