H264 stream created w/VLC has choppy playback in Quicktime

Postby gorecki83 » 07 Feb 2012 12:09

Hello,

Yesterday I created this MP4 file: http://noisetube.net/publications/TVBru ... -01-26.mp4

The H-264/AVC video stream in this file was transcoded from an original VP6 stream (which was wrapped in a FLV container).
I did the transcoding using the "convert" option in VLC v1.1.10 on Windows 7 64bit. I specified a bitrate of 1536 kb/s and an fps of 30. I left resolution unchanged.
Afterwards, I used MP4box to mux-in the AAC audio stream and 2 subtitle streams, resulting in the MP4 file linked above.

This file plays 100% fine in VLC and in Google Chrome. However, when I play it in QuickTime (v7.7.1 Pro, again on Win7 64bit), the video is choppy/flickery, although the audio plays fine.
Is there anything I can do about this? Maybe 1536 kb/s is a non-standard bitrate or something?

Thanks in advance!

Some tips here:

And there:

Also notice that you may need to remux the file because VLC is creating MP4 files with a variable frame rate and maybe (I'm not using QuickTIme anymore so I'm not sure) that's the reason why it's choppy.
