Transcode speed up ("X-Factor")?

Postby SteveO » 06 Jan 2012 00:16

Hi Forum,

I am transcoding files; i.e. the input and the output to VLC are both files. Within the GUI I see I can speed up that processing to as high as 4x. My questions are:

1) Is 4x as fast as I can specify the transcode rate within the GUI?
2) What is the fastest I can specify the transcode rate from the command line?

I realize that VLC is primarly designed with streaming in mind, in which case a specific "X-factor" makes sense, but when I am going from file to file and do not have interest in a display I would think I should be able to go as fast as the CPU will accomodate, which might translate into an x-factor of 100 plus.

I will investigate further but any feedback is appreciated.

:D
