A bug with visualizations

Postby rarkenin » 28 Dec 2011 01:57

With any music playing, the spectrum visualization loaded, a few video effects(Ctrl-E panel)crash VLC. I have tested image adjust and sharpen on, right after the sharpen box is checked, VLC crashes. Either of these options by themselves do not cause crashes, but hue adjustments cause weird effects. Also, turning on rotation in the Geometry tab causes VLC to suddenly crash. Gradient option in image modification tab also crashes, and I will keep looking. Under Vout, only "add text" works.

With vout, none of this happens. However, switching into Spectrometer, scope, spectrum, and vu meter cause screen corruption for a split second followed by crash. Turning on options directly just crashes without screen corruption.

Update: Opening prefs, going to set up associations dialog, and applying changes(Whether changes were made or not) crashes, resulting in an empty dump file all the time. I am trying to get a crashdump with another program now.

Update: I made it through the slew of BSoDs associated with my dumper crashing. I have the dumps, in a usermode crashdumper dumpfile, on a personal web server. Pay no attention to the URL, just see the dumps(In RAR files) at http://parodicaltech.undo.it/rarkenin_dump/
This site will probably see some downtime tomorrow as I am having my DSL connection fixed. If you can't connect, try again in about 2 hours.
The dump vlc1340#0.dmp is that when the exception occurred, the file vlc1340#1.dmp is at process termination. An uncompressed version is also available in the same folder on the server.
I will include debugging output later.

Try VLC 1.2
I am not doing this out of complaint, but to improve the software, as automated crashdump upload failed for the last bug. See full dumps at http://parodicaltech.undo.it/rarkenin_dump/

If you know gdb, you can get better info (backtrace) with that.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to do that. If you can explain a way for me to do that, I'll try to do that. Are the full dumps of any use?

Dumps from VLC 1.1.x pretty much useless since there won't any Win32 VLC 1.1.x releases. Next release will be VLC 1.2.x

OK. I'll wait, then recheck.
