Issue with DVD play

I really like VLC but having an issue with one DVD in particular. I really wanted to use VLC's slow down feature with this DVD, but
only get a black screen with the VLC icon in the middle(no sound, either). Tried searches and unchecked the Acc Video Output/Overlay box and different
outputs but nothing works. This DVD does play in Win Media Player and the HP player, odd because files and DVDs that won't play elsewhere
play on VLC. I know I can slow down DVD play in WMPlayer, but lose the sound.
