maximum users connected to stream

Postby ambush276 » 01 Sep 2011 19:30

if i am streaming an Mpeg4 File (live streaming)... and i want to put it on a LOCAL site (so a php site that is locally stored on my lan

people on the lan can go to the website and watch (like a 192.168.X.X) etc.. only those people..

Does my streaming server need to be something fancy for a lot of people to connect.. or if it can stream for one person ... can it stream for ... like 200 people?

i know bandowidth wise i need a gigabit connection for the entire system of peopel wanting to watch.. but assuming my switches and routers can handle the bandwidth on the website... does the server that is processing the video have to be fancy?

Thanks!

Watching a live single stream scales fairly well in theory. But it's not necessarily well optimized, and it depends so much on your system that it's really impossible to provide an answer.
