Time Remaining Display Help!

I want to put a small, permanent "time remaining" display on my videos in one of the corners, and a small, permanent title display along with what's coming next at the bottom of the video if possible. I've tried going into the Effects and Filters menu and putting %h %m %s into the Overlay section, but that crashes VLC. (and upon doing %m %s only, I found out it only does clock time, not video time remaining) I've searched these forums, but the only things I've found are long lines of code that I honestly don't understand and don't know where to put. I don't know any other way of accessing the marquee, as I couldn't find it in the Tools > Preferences after searching it for a LONG time. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
