New Lion Update (10.7.1) Still Doesn't Fix VLC Optical Out

I can still not get encoded audio out to work in VLC. I'm specifically testing this with my MKV files with encoded output and avi files which I don't know if they have encoded output or not. I can only get audio by disabling the audio track and enabling it again. When I do that I get audio and I'm able to select encoded out. When I do I get a log error after VLC beach balls.

oddly enough I can play my mkv files just fine in Quicktime with perian. of course I have no option for audio out, but I don't have to disable and enable the audio tracks to get it to work.

This is frustrating. I don't understand why it's taking so long to fix the problem.

I unistalled all the library folders vlc created (completely uninstalled vlc) and things still aren't working for me. calling apple to complain about this to see what it could be on their end. I already made a feedback report at www.apple.com/feedback. I suggest everyone do the same.

I tried similar (mentioned on the "Surround Optical out in Lion 10.7 is broken" thread).

Good point about the Apple feedback, may I ask (very roughly) what you wrote, for instance do we know the API which is causing the problem - I presume that's the issue? xbmc and Apple's DVD Player (not sure about QuickTime) use a different one so is that why they work OK?

Hi,

10.7.1 Did not repair anything. Not with vlc 1.1.10 either. Selecting the encoded output makes VLC irresponsive.

This is sad because i need the subtitles.

Tip for those who dont need the subs, MPEG Streamclip plays everything fine with Dolby 5.1 BUT misses the subs.

Bugger.

Lets hope there will be a solution for this annoying bug soon !
