anyhoo, what i'm asking about is being able to create a quadraphonic output alongside a stereo output when playing a stereo audio file from a CD, DVD, m4a or otherwise...
i.e.
by cloning the left and right signals and phase-inverting one, then summing the two together, thus removing any audio in the "center" of the audio field (vocal tracks for example). or using phase matrixing to remove everything *but* what's panned to center, or a combination of the above to be sent to the surround outputs of ones audio interface...
or any other phase-related magic

i realise that you can do this with Audacity or Cubase with some VST/NYQUIST/LADSPA/RTAS plugins, but it would be nice to just be able to impulsively play a stereo file and phase-contort it into quadraphonic as it is being played
