There are no options to do that. Perhaps I've already done it is why? I don't know. Lost.And you get black screen even if you disable Overlay and use WinGDI video output module?

Then your VLC install is broken.
VLC 1.1.9 from videolan.org allows WinGDI
Probably a driver incompatibility. Video driver, audio driver are usually the ones to blame.
