MKV files restarting during playback

Hey there, I've searched the forums, but have not seen anything along this issue.

I am running VLC 1.1.8 on a MacBook Pro (with 4gb of ram, 2.66 Intel Core i7) running 10.6.6.

It seems every time I try to play an MKV file after awhile of playback, the video will restart at the beginning of the video. It will always happen at the same point in the video, though at different times depending on which file I am playing.

It will also, upon the restart of the video, usually have the audio issues, being very stuttery. The files are around 700mb in size.

I'm not having problems playing the videos in other players, but the problem is they have subtitles embedded into them, and the other players dont seem to pick up the subtitles, and its all in another language, which makes playing them in other players pointless.

Any and all advice will be helpful, and if you need anymore information let me know.

I been having the same problem for a few days.
I thought that my problem was related with the flip4mac, that was the only change I made recently. But after uninstall it and clean my mac, I continue to have the same problem.
I been reading that the problem was related with the subs on the mkv. But even disabling them, the problem continues.
Anyone have any inside about this issue.

It is doing the same thing with version 1.1.9--while playing the .mkv video, it suddenly starts back at the beginning with choppy audio. I can't tell for sure if it picked up a marker which I can "skip to the next chapter", in that same same spot, it restarts. I have the latest version and reset my preferences, and it's still doing the same thing.

Had this issue a while ago and managed to fix it, but it's suddenly re-appeared. Playing around with the settings, if you turn off the settings to order the chapters for mkv files it should fix the problem (well it has in my case).

Go to,
Preferences (select all in the bottom left) > Inut/Codecs > Demuxers > Matroska > Untick the following options
- Ordered Chapters
- Chapter codecs

that should do it.
