Screen gets black, audio is still ok

Postby masimo » 23 Mar 2011 23:39

Sometimes the video output gets black and the audio is still there. If the screen is toggled from fullscreen to window, only the window content panel is black. Window decoration and desktop is still visible.

VLC is started from command line and runs 24 hours, 7 days a week. Videos are started using the http interface. The effect is not related to a specific video. The same video file might work and half a day later the black screen appears for this video. If vlc is restarted, for some time everything is OK.

It seems to be, that changing the monitor / device has some influence. But this couldn’t be reproduced for sure now. The PC is connected to a Plasma tv by a hdmi cable. The log file is switched on now. The next time the defect appears, i will publish the log. (Thanks to Jean-Baptiste Kempf, who explained how to switch on the logging)

  • Here is the configuration:
  • VLC 1.1.4
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3
  • ATI Radeon 4350 (Driver 8.632.0.0)
  • Connected to plasma tv by hdmi cable
  • VLC Configuration:
  • Output: Default
  • Overlay (yes)
  • Use hardware YUV -> RGB (yes)
Thanks in advance for any help.
