VLC and DVD rips

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I have been using VLC for awhile on a MAC and recently bought a netbook, in which I use Linux. I play DVD rips that I obtained from friends.

The trouble I have is that on a DVD Menu, I click on a chapter, and it won't link to said chapter. In order to play video I have to find the particular Video_TS file or VOB and open that. And of course the chapter is not exact, it will show the middle of the chapter, or the middle of the previous chapter

How can I get the menu to work correctly, and take me to the chapter I want to see? Or failing that, to be able to view the entire DVD without having to access each file separately?. Again, these are DVD rips I'm playing.
