Playing Video From Command-Line

Postby BlueHorseshoeLoves » 23 Dec 2010 02:30

Long story short, I have to play a .avi file from the command line. I can play audio files just fine, but the .avi files do not start to play.

Code: Select all

$ vlc 'file.avi' [0x101000f48] [rc] lua interface: Listening on host "*console". VLC media player 1.1.5 The Luggage Remote control interface initialized. Type `help' for help. > get_time 0 > play > get_time 0 > playlist +----[ Playlist - Undefined ] | 2 - Playlist | 4 - file.avi (00:21:32) [played 1 time] | 3 - Media Library +----[ End of playlist ] >
The file is loaded into the playlist fine, but will not play. I am assuming that I have to probably declare a screen or output device, but I am new to vlc and there is no good explanation of how to do this.

I have a gui os, but I want to play the video to another monitor attached to my computer.
