I am currently using VLC media player 1.1.5 and when it was installed I chose the option to have the firefox plugin installed as well. The plugin shows up in my add ons list in firefox in the plugins tab. When I type in about:plugins in the address bar, I see the whole list of filetypes it supports and they are enabled as yes. But I do not know exactly how I can use this plugin. There is no option in the add ons window in firefox that allows me to edit any options. The closest thing I saw in editing any options was found in an ubuntu forum and it stated to goto (in firefox): Tools > Options... > Applications button and change the actions column to "use VLC" for the different file types. In this option I do not see any lines referring to .flv or any other Adobe Flash type files.
Exactly how are you supposed to use the Firefox VLC Multimedia Plug-in? I currently use Windows XP with Mozilla Firefox ver. 3.6.13 installed. I searched the forums and the VLC wiki and could not find any definite instructions on how to use the plugin. Is there any way to use the VLC plugin in Firefox instead of Adobe Flash to watch videos in YouTube or in any other site (usually video game sites like callofduty.com or dungeondefenders.com) that requires the Flash plugin. I really despise Flash and its rather large CPU requirements. I currently use a stream ripper to rip any streamed .flv or other Flash video to the hard drive first, then I watch it in the main VLC media player. Does the firefox plugin support the use of GPU acceleration? Is the Geforce 6200 card included in the list of GPUs supported for GPU acceleration?
