save video effects by file type

Ok, this has probably been suggested before, but perhaps not with the wrinkle of saving video effects by file type.

That way a bunch of FLV's you downloaded could be all played corrected, easily, while the DVD you watch would not be affected. Wouldn't this be quite easy to code as well?
