Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger Build 8A425) and subtitle problems

Postby Hodag » 06 Apr 2005 17:39

VLC 0.8.1

When trying to play any any .avi with an .srt or any subtitle file, or a .mkv or .ogm with bundled subtitles, the subtitles selection in the Video menu is grayed out. In addition, any additional audio tracks (other then the first) are inaccessible as well, as the audio channel selection menu item is also grayed out.
Any ideas?

Yup, compiled under 10.4 and tried the latest nightly as well. No joy.

Yes i was recently made aware of this issue. It will be solved in a next version, but i still need to get Tiger first, so that is the issue here. I'll be burning it today, and then i have to install it on my 2nd mac, which then needs to be updated to the current vlc development build environment.

So it will still take some time before it is finished

Nope. Well, use the preferences perhaps to make it default to another device.

i fixed the issue for the next release.
For 0.8.1 there is a workaround.

When you first click on the Help menu and then with the menu open, move to the Control, Audio or Video menu, you will see that the menu is suddenly there :D

It's not very handy, but it will get the job done.

Apparently menu's got smarter. So where the program used to get notified of any menu opening, now we only get notified of the menu that you actually open. We were using the Help menu as the key menu to do some checks, and in Tiger that no longer works.

video device menu greyed out FIXED

I also have tiger installed, and many menu items are greyed out but your FIX of opening the Help menu first then go to the other menu heading worked for me too. Thanks

vlc crash in tiger when going from full screen to normal

Postby milo » 22 Apr 2005 18:48

Using Tiger, the help menu fix was really great to get the other grayed out menus back.

However, I now have problem of vlc crashing whenever I go from full screen view back to windowed view. When I first open a movie and view full screen, it is fine. When I go from full screen back to a windowed view, it goes back, the top window where the close/minimise buttons are for the video goes white, and I get a spinning ball until it eventually crashed not long after.

Any ideas?

The pb of accessing to video and audio menu is ok for me when i goes from help menu to video.

But i have the same problem when going from full screen to window screen.

VLC crash !

here is the console message :

[[32;1m00000001[0m] main vlc error: [31;1moption rt-offset does not exist[0m
[00000001] main vlc error: option rt-offset does not exist

With VLC 0.7.2 : same pb of menu acces but it don't crash when exiting full screen mode...

Another workaround: you can toggle between the audio and subtitle tracks using the keyboard. Using the default configuration: l to cycle through audio tracks available in the file, s to cycle through audio tracks.

Additionally, will a new version of the XviD codec be included with the new Mac binary release of VLC? I'm starting to notice that more and more of my video files are becoming jerky, and I have no idea how to install a new version of the XviD codec into VLC to get around this problem.

Now that Tiger has been released, any timeframe for a VLC update? Most annoying bug is the crashing when switching from Fullscreen to Windowed mode.

I have noticed that if I use the VLC controller to switch from full screen to windowed, instead of hitting escape, that VLC won't crash.

Same thing happened with my Mac OS Tiger when using VLC 0.8.1

when is the newer version going to be launched?

judacris:temp

VLC 0.8.2 slows .mkv files down

Postby judacris:temp » 30 May 2005 10:31

It seem it does. It's very jerky, with or without subtitles.
The same file works perfect with the workaround on 0.8.1 to show subs.

subtitles

Postby dc2610 » 02 Jun 2005 03:47

I can't get subtitles to work. I tried everything in this thread. I get a message that says that subtitles aren't available. In menu subtitles stays greyed out no matter what I do. When I start the movie I get an error message that says an error occurred with regards to the subtitle file. I have Tiger.

Anyone have any ideas of how to fix this? :(

I also get this message when I start the movie "main: no suitable access module for `file://'

I don't know what this means.
