MP4 playback not full frame

I'm having a problem viewing the MP4 videos from my digital camera. When I play an MP4 file which was downloaded to the computer hard drive from the camera, VLC won't display the full frame of the video. It only shows the upper left quadrant of the frame. I had this problem with an older version of VLC and I fixed it by changing some settings in VLC but I don't remember what I did. When I installed a newer version of VLC (1.1.0) the video frame problem came back. I don't have this problem when viewing MP4 files from other sources such as the Internet. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks
