Playback of Zmodo H264 Security DVR Video

Postby alpha232 » 07 Dec 2010 09:44

Using the latest build on Windows XP vlc-1.2.0-git-20101207-0002-win32.exe, when attempting to play back, VLC returns the following error:
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
Looking under Tools-Codec Information, it shows an "undef" audio stream and no video stream.
File is located at https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B273nt ... ZDBj&hl=en.

MediaInfo reports:

Awesome, great start... Thanks...

Now that the file opens, it appears to have issues with intermediate frames. I get a few grey frames, then a few full frames, then grey, rinse and repeat.

I know this is an ancient post, but its still one of the top links returned from Google when searching for how to play these videos. I finally got a straight forward answer form Zmodo support and it ended a significant amount of frustration.
You will need to convert the .264 file to .avi in order to play it on your computer or share it with other people. There is a AviGenerator software on the mini disc that came with the DVR. You can also download it from our website at http://www.zmodo.com/downloader/ and do a SKU search for 9216 and select the AviGenerator.

If you have trouble downloading it you may need to download the unzipping software WinRAR. Here is a link to a good site for that...

http://www.filehippo.com/download_winrar ...and click on the 32-bit version download in the top right corner.
The default windows zip extractor will not open the .zip file. 7zip opened it no problems. The .avi generated by the program allows flawless playback through VLC media player. No more gray frames or other garbage. Hope this is helpful for some people.

AviGenerator does not work for me. It produces an very small avi file from 270MB to 166KB. And playing it produces noise but no video. Videolan, kmplayer, mpc-hc are all unable to play the .264 file. I would not recommend purchasing this ZModo --please stay polite--.
