Vlc player causes Seamonkey 2.0.6 to crash

I'm trying to use Vlc player v 1.1.5 as my default player (Win XP SP3), but when I try to open a video file attached to an email, I get either a black browser screen of a crash.
Can anyone please throw any light on this issue?

Does it still crash if you update to SeaMonkey 2.0.10 ?
Notice that version 2.0.11 should be released in seven days.
