VLC reporting volume and mute indication?

I have a streaming desktop application written in Java. It has an embedded VLC player which streams music from the Internet to the client application. While streaming, the player reports back data attributes such as song genre, song title, bitrate, and other things.. However, it doesn't report back volume setting or mute indication. Is there a way to have the player report back this data?
