Problem with mpgv - is there any other codec to play mpge2?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Problem with mpgv - is there any other codec to play mpge2?

Postby Jerry » 01 Oct 2010 22:33

I have some problems when trying to play some 3rd party dvds, probably created with Nero. I get a lot of

Code: Select all

main warning: late picture skipped
and the video freezes.
I tried this dvd in smplayer and it plays it with no problem, but it is using ffmpeg2 as a video decoder and mpegps as a demuxer.
I tried
vlc --codec=ffmpeg
but it does not work (VLC steel uses mpgv)
So the question is: Is there any other decoder than mpgv in VLC that can play mpeg2 and how can I force VLC to use it?
