Smoother XVID playback

Postby nazopo » 09 Jun 2010 04:17

I have some XVID files which play normal. But if you compare it against an mpg2 file or TS file recorded with a PVR, you notice the mpg2 or TS has
a smoother playback which would be comparable to what you would watch on tv. I have post-processing disabled. If that is the way XVID compression done than o well. It just seems like they could play faster.

Does Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) complain something during playback?

Would you like a sample of the video?

I noticed the MPEG2 version framerate is 59.94 while the XVID version is 29.97.

MPEG-2 one is prolly interlaced one. Is there some section of that XVID video where problems should be seen?

You are correct. The MPG2 source is 1080i. There is no problem shown in the video. Do you think the refresh rate has anything to deal with it?

If you use yadif x2 deinterlace, it might smoothness better than the algorithm used to make that Xvid copy.

I tried that and it didn't do anything. Does XVId tend to make videos play slower than their less compressed counterpart?

No. It is just video codec.
