Changed all my files?need help on a deadline at work

Ok so downloaded vlc becouse I had 4 video files that wouldnt play anywhere else becouse they are avf files.
and now have 2 problems.
first and most important

for some reason vlc has set itself as my default player AND changed all my other video files to avf files. I actually would have prefered if it changed just the 4 to a more typical file type.

so now the only place i can play ANY video is in vlc becouse its the only thing i have that will read avf files. and i have to be able to play them in my editing programs (im working with copies of eveidence here so have to use and do specific things)

how do i keep it from doing that and how do i turn them back into something i can actually use???



the other question
for some reason vlc is playing the 4 videos as wide screen when on the orginal computer they were squared. is it streching them or just showing something the other computer cant. And if streching how do i fix it.


oh and one other thing. is it possible to use vlc to play more than one video at a time side by side??
