"VLC media player just crashed"

Postby 2xN » 14 Feb 2010 03:40

I wasn't able to find a topic addressing a problem of this nature, so I'm asking it myself.

Up until about a day ago, VLC Media Player had worked fine. Then all of the sudden, it decided to not work anymore. I know this sounds silly but I honestly haven't got the slightest clue as to what happened. I had made no changes/updates to the program or my operating system (I'm running Windows XP). Whenever I try to launch the application, whether it be by opening an audio/video file or by clicking on the shortcut icon on my desktop, instead of the media player window opening, I get this message box:

I hit the "Yes" button, but based on past experiences with automated error reports, I am not confident that this problem will be resolved just like that.

Does anyone have any idea as to what's wrong? I really like using VLC, it's compact, plays any media file on my hard disk (even the ones without extensions), has great functionality, and sure beats the hell out of Windows Media Player and DivX.
