Playing PAL Region 2 DVD's

Postby castiglione » 02 Feb 2010 09:08

Hi,

I read that it's possible to play PAL Region 2 DVD's using VLC media player.

However, when I tried to, the player wouldn't play the DVD.

Am I missing something or did I hear wrong?

Thanks in advance!

C

Hello, yes, my PC is region 1 (USA/Canada).

The DVD I'm trying to play is "Taxi" (PAL region 2).

Ok, probably your DVD drive is RPC2 blocked and we can't do anything about it.

Does it display weird colours or is it plain broken?

I think I can play it with Windows Media Player if I just change the region but I get a warning message that I can only do this a few times before the settings "lock".

I heard that one can play PAL region 2 DVD's using VLC Media Player but it simply won't play at all. I guess you could say it's "broken" since VLC won't even play it.

u can try ripping (copy) your dvd to harddisk
and play it from there with vlc

with tools like DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink or DVDFab u can do this
they may not be legal in your country because they break css protection
pls look at wikipedia/google for more infos and links

to rip the dvd the region code doesn't matter
so no need to change it

btw: making your dvd drive region free with firmware updates is NOT recommended for vista and windows 7
if u do this, windows media player will stop playing dvds properly
