using media player to convert from mpgv to h264

Postby wakelt » 22 Jan 2010 17:17

Good Morning folks;

I've been playing around with the media player conversion tool looking to translate various formats to h264.

I've noticed that when I convert mpgv4 to h264, I lose the first 8 to 9 seconds of my video (= the
screen is blank for that time). I have a frame counter built into the original stream, so I have a good indication
of how much of the output stream is missing.

At t=9sec, the video picks up and looks fine.

Any clues as to whats causing this, or how to get around it. This same phenomena doesn't happen when converting
to wmv.

thanks,
wk

There are certain x264 bugs in current VLC stable builds. You could try nightly builds and see if they work any better.
