VLC interoperabilty

Hi, I am testing VLC 1.0.3 as VOD streaming solution for home based on RTSP protocol.
I am testing different clients and surprisingly just VLC 1.0.3 works as client. Other clients tat theoretically supports RTSP doesn't: WMP 9, WMP 11, WMP 12 (W7) and Quick Time 7.6.5

First thought was that those other media players didn't support the AVI file being streamed but all of them are able to open the same file locally.

Is there any restriction about interoperability? Any experience?
