time track indicates 0:00:00, even though video plays

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

time track indicates 0:00:00, even though video plays

Postby Neeltje » 13 Jan 2010 17:00

I couldn't find an answer to this question anywhere else:
I've got videos with file extension m2ts. They play OK with VLC on both Windows XP and Mac, but on both computers the timeline keeps indicating 0:00:00. I'm trying to score these videos with regards to durations of behaviour, so I need to know the time that each behaviour starts and stops. I need to slow down the video to make accurate observations, so a time track with the actual time is essential.
If anyone could suggest away to start that time track running, that would be great!

With many thanks! Neeltje

While there are probably ways to accomplish the task of adding better time coding to your files using VideoLAN project software, I haven't worked out how to solve your problem with them yet. I have had good fortune with two free-ware programs related to Blu-Ray & transport stream problems in general that you might want to try.

One is a M2TS muxer called TSMuxer. Its from a multimedia company in Moscow and it seems to handle just about everything I have thrown at it.

The other program is called TS Doctor and comes from a German programmer - this program is designed to recover damaged digital broadcast recordings, and while it complains about the 192 byte packets, it does clean everything up smartly.

As you likely have digital Hi-Def recordings rather than Blu-Ray stuff, its hard to know if all this will work or not. The world is awash in slightly incompatible multimedia implementations.
