VLC deleted my file

Postby blyndy » 10 Jan 2010 08:22

VLC just erased a 2gb video. I finished a two hour transcode and opened another VLC instance to watch it. The two windows were on top of each other and I selected the wrong one and pressed play. It deleted the transcoded file and started transcoding all over again. What a crappy thing to do. Are the developers going to fix this?

I can confirm this with vlc 1.0.5 release version for Windows on XP
I was transcoding h264 to mp2v.

C:\Demo>vlc --vout-filter=transform --transform-type=hflip c:\h264.avi --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=2048,acodec=mp2a,ab=192,scale=1,channels=2,deinterlace,audio-sync}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ts,dst="c:\Demo\demo.mpg"},dst=display}

Interesting that on Win7 there is no problem but on XP I get this:
avcodec error: cannot open encoder
main debug: TIMER module_need() : 27.000 ms - Total 27.000 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 27.000 ms)
stream_out_transcode error: cannot find video encoder (module:any fourcc:mp2v)

Then I added fps=25 to transcode module, which starts transcoding and creates the file, but when I open the mpg file its size suddenly drops to zero and starts transcoding again!
I started with a fresh vlc and deleted the prefrences but that did not help

When I am on Win7 there is no problem only with XP I see this!

Here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/774657/demo.mpg) is the video file, try opening it in VLC and the file is deleted!
