Making VLC the Default

Postby moosic-mad » 08 Jan 2010 14:22

I have installed VLC Media Player and i really enjoy using it to play my CD's and DVD's. But could someone tell me how i can make the VLC Media Player the default application for playing CD's and DVD's. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). Thanks

There are probably half a dozen ways to access and or enable "File Management "where the setting can be made...
A couple
in terminal - then enable in system -> preferences, then access thru there

Code: Select all

alacarte
to access directly

Code: Select all

nautilus-file-management-properties
Insert your media holding down the shift button on keyboard - pop up is self explanatory

Whether you get proper cddb info with 1.0.2 in karmic I'm not sure - at very least 'album art download policy' should be set to 'as soon as track is added'

If not vlc in lucid will be much better - 1.0.4 atm and libcddb2-dev was added as a build depend
