No sound from VLC, but sound still works.

Postby dorrax » 27 Oct 2009 14:38

I am using ubuntu 9.04 with OSS instead of ALSA, since ALSA does not support my soundcard. Recently, VLC has stopped playing any sound. It still says it is playing the file, but mp3s, wavs, and movies are all silent. I doubt this is specifically VLC because totem, amarok, and rhythmbox have no sound either. However, when I go to youtube and play a video there, that sound works fine.

Has anyone here ever run into a similar problem and might point me in a direction to fix it?

Thank you.

Only one application can use OSS at a time. Probably another process if keeping OSS open all the time. Not much VLC can do about.

You can find it with

Code: Select all
