Bad sound with Creative X-Fi

VLC outputs slightly warped sound on my linux setup. stats are as following:

vlc 0.9.9 Grishenko
Linux 1.00 drivers, http://support.creative.com/downloads/d ... adId=10792
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Fedora 10

This is as far as I have discerned isolated to VLC, for example the music software Rythmbox outputs audio just fine. Also the quality of the audio file seems to matter, not really shure if it is the *quality* but I assume so, some audio files will sound more warped than others.

So I turn to you to ask, can you help me get VLC working fine?
