Upg to 1.0, now won't play WMA?

Postby nopk » 21 Jul 2009 17:14

20 minutes ago I double clicked on a .WMA file and 0.9.9 started up and played my music a-ok. A few seconds into the song the VLC "A New Version is available, fixes lots of bugs!" notification popped up .. figured wth, why not, downloaded and installed. (Uninstalled 0.9.9 automagically, then installed new 1.0)

Now VLC doesnt play WMA's. If I try and play a playlist of all WMA's, it just wont do anything other than flicker for a second then go idle. If I doubleclick on a specific WMA file it'll load the file, the slide and timer will indicate its moving through the file, but I get no audio.

Tried WMP and it still plays WMA's ok, so didnt figure VLC uninstall toasted the codec or something..

Suggestions?

thanks,

nopk.

Can you share a broken file?

I have very similar problem, but with mp3s not wma.

I've got a playlist with about 100 songs in it. Worked fine under .99, upgraded to 1.0.0 and now opening the playlist file causes vlc to not play anything in it. Opening the file, or pressing play causes it to appear (from the title bar of the vlc window) to skip through every file in the playlist without playing anything. In the playlist window it highlights the last song in the list, as if all had been played.

I'd be more than happy to share the playlist file - it's an xspf file (except it may give away how bad my musical taste is...)

More data:

1. Saving the playlist file as m3u and loading the m3u file has the same result.
2. Don't know if it's relevant but some of my mp3 files under .99 had blank titles (lack of metadata I'd presume), they now show the filename in the title which is a nice improvement
3. All of the files are on a removable hard drive. The drive letter hasn't changed, and I can play the files individually in vlc.
4. If I open a couple of individual files (building a small playlist) then open the playlist file, I get everything added to the playlist, however the only songs that play are the 2 songs opened individually. So if I shuffle, it skips through everything until it gets to the 1st song. Clicking "next track" then causes it to skip through to the 2nd track, and clicking "next track" skips through to the end.

Running Windows XP, SP2, 2 gigs of RAM, yadda yadda.

Hope this is useful info.

VLC 0.9.9 playlists won't work in VLC 1.0.0 unless you edit them manually.
