Trouble Playing Two Separate Audio & Video Streams

I am streaming an MPEG-4 Video Elementary Stream (via Unicast RTP) to VLC. This is a video only stream, no audio track. That works fine, but I want to play an additional stream (the audio) simultaneously via the "Play Another Media Synchronously" feature (available in VLC 0.9.9 extended GUI). I cannot get this to work, even when the "extra media" is just an audio file on the client machine. VLC just plays the primary media only. I get the same behavior with Ver 1.0.0.

Does this feature not work?
