Video control panel like in QuickTime X and WMP 12

Postby nicainmiami » 10 Jul 2009 20:54

Hi,

This is a request for the video/audio controls -- Play/Pause, Stop... -- to be embedded in the video screen like in the upcoming versions of QuickTime X and Windows Media Player 12. When you hover the cursor on the video screen of said media players, the control panel appears, move the cursor from the video screen and the control panel fades away.

I like using the CTRL+H to hide the control panel in VLC but then I have to hit the key combo again to bring the control panel again. Not having the video embedded in the interface does a similar thing but then you have two windows: The video player and the control panel.

Sorry if this feature has already been requested. I made sure to look at the past forum postings and also searched the forum but couldn't find a post about this feature request.

Love VLC!!!

You want this not only in fullscreen mode?

Yeah I think it would give VLC a "clean" look, not that the player is has a cluttered look. VLC is a powerful and modern media player, but I think this feature would also give it a modern media player "look".

I dont want this to seem as if its being dug up from the past but I to agree that this would be a good feature.

When VLC went from 0.8 to 0.9 I feel that the player felt cluttered with too much on display when its not in full screen mode.

An idea I thought of would be to implement the Windows Media Player 12 style controls that appear when you hover over the screen and also to make the menus at the top do the same. This could be optional to turn it on rather than making it the only way of using VLC.

1.0 makes you customize your panels as you want, like 0.8.6
