Fedora 11 vlc

Postby herlit11 » 24 Jun 2009 17:27

Hello everyone. I am using vlc on Fedora 11 with pulse audio. I use vlc to capture from a tv card. The pulse audio server on F11 does not
use /dev/dsp anymore. The thing is that i need the dsp to tell vlc where to get the audio from.

I tried "padsp" but i could not get vlc to capture.

Any ideas on how to use vlc tv capture without "/dev/dsp"?

thanks in advance ,regards

I don't think pa ever used /dev/dsp given that OSS (the alsa compatibily layer) has been removed to prevent problem with PA.

In the vlc package from RPM Fusion for F-11, OSS have been disabled completely. But maybe a default switch remains to OSS.
I might have seen a patch about that in 1.0-bugfix. You may need to tweak the default audio in to use ALSA, even if OSS is disabled for now.

In 0.9.x, v4l:// implies OSS input and v4l2:// implies alsa.
in 1.0.x, it's completly separated so you need to use vll:// :input-slave=alsa://

I've backported this patch in -rc4, that might help to use audio-input:alsa (but only using the gui).
http://cvs.rpmfusion.org/viewvc/rpms/vl ... iew=markup

You can have it with yum update vlc\* --enablerepo=rpmfusion-free-updates-testing
