From 0.9.9 to 1.0.0 rc4 - sound problem

Postby Worf72 » 23 Jun 2009 17:55

Hello,

I've been using VLC for the last 4 years or so.
I recently built a new PC (i7 920, 6GB ram, Sound Blaster X-FI, WinXp 32 bit) and I installed vlc 1.0.0 rc1.
When I open a .avi, .mov or .mpeg file, the video plays ok, but I have problems with the audio: every 4-5 seconds, there a small silence of about 0.3 sec.
When I open a.vob file, again the video is ok, the sound is ok unless I turn on deinterlace (any method)! When I turn on deinterlace, I have the same audio problem!
I tried to install vlc 0.9.9 but had the same problem.
I installed GOM player and everything's fine (both video and audio).
I then installed VLC 1.0.0 rc4 and I have the same audio problem, so I have to use GOM.

I don't have audio problems with any of my other programs (foobar, adobe audition, etc), just with vlc.
What can it be?????

Thanks for any suggestion!

Worf

Does it help if you change audio output module to waveout?

If not, does Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) complain something when sound problems happen?

Are those messages from DVD or from some other file? Does it help if you change video output module?

Those messages are from a .iso created from a DVD.

Does the audio work any better if you disable video?

I turned off "high quality audio resampling" and it's ok now.
This is strange though, because on my previous machine (Core 2 duo E6400, 2 GB ram but same audio card X-fi) it was turned on and it worked ok.

Thank you anyway for the nice support!
