Playing joined AVI files

Postby jlarsen » 09 Jun 2009 05:31

I have quite a few AVI video files that are joined from 2 700mb files, and on most of them VLC only see's it as 90-100 minutes long instead of the full length. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I thought maybe it has something to do with it recognizing 2 video/audio tracks, but it doesn't seem to end at where the orignal clips did. Is there any way around this?

Joined with a program called Briz video joiner. The videos play on Windows Media Player and the Xbox, just not VLC. I'd send a sample but everything I have is 1.5GB

Virtualdub mod or avidemux join avis without reencoding as long as both individual files have same resolution and same codec. Codec options, such as average bitrate or quant matrix can differ and avidemux can still join then using the smart copy mode.

Do you have the original files? if so, you could try cutting a sample using the last minutes of part 1 and the beginning of part 2. You could obtain these using avidemux or virtualdubmod to cut the minutes from the parts to new files, THEN joining those small files with Briz video joiner.
