Vlc Fedora 3 running but poorly.

I was able to get VLan 0.8.1 running under Fedora Core 3 but I am having difficulties playing .mpg and my dvd's. WMV files play fine. Vlan fires up opens the file and immediately closes and disappears when trying to run the above mentioned file types. Anyone know what could be causing this and perhaps what to try to fix this. I know it will play them because it actually did play a dvd one time.

after that you see a list of available software packages for playing Movie files ,try to install what you need

and now tell me how you get .wmv files running with videolan and Fedora Core 3
