.rmvb files and stuttering

Postby synchro » 09 May 2009 16:15

i got latest vers of VLC and it works fine for almost everything i watch.
except rmvb files. they play fine until, for example in dragonball cartoons, there is a lot of motion onscreen. any kinda fast movement seizes up the screen but audio is still running... then as the action sequence in the film/cartoon stops it goes back to normal.
now, i have no idea about codecs and their settings but i've tried changing some settings that are obvious but the problem is still there.

seems to me that rmvb files give good quality viewing for small space on your hdd. because .rm files were always very poor quality you'd have to decide a trade off [and i don't think last version of VLC played .rm files cos i could only get them working with MPC].
i'm guesssing that because the rmvb file is so compressed [don't forget i'm a total noob at this kinda thing] VLC just can't processs so much data during action sequences where a lot goes on onscreen, so the stuttering occurs.

so... is there a setting to fix this? i can't get rmvb files to play on MPC and have just dl'd realalternative. maybe that will work?

but, other than this rmvb stuttering, VLC is a superb piece of software. and it;s free!!! THANK YOU for this. much appreciated.

ps, i got issues with creating playlists but think that's just me not using common sense [problem is first file in list just replays ignoring other files but i'll figure that one myself probably]

thnx again

If those .rmvb files have H.264 encoded video, you can try loop filter trick.
