Compile fails on 0.9.9a with Ubuntu 8.10 and ffmpeg-0.5

Hi.
I received an error when compiling VLC 0.9.9a on Ubuntu 8.10.

Code: Select all

... MAKE : avcodec collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [all] Error 2

I'm not sure what logs are required so I will upload anything that helps in troubleshooting.
I compiled and installed my own deb of ffmpeg and I think that may have something to do with it. How do I check everything is in order?

I had many compile errors trying to build vlc on ubuntu 8.10

I found this blog very helpful and was finally able to successfully build in ubuntu 8.10
