Trying to convert flv videos to wmv, can only convert audio.

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Trying to convert flv videos to wmv, can only convert audio.

Postby human_male » 10 Apr 2009 06:35

Hi there. I'm using version 0.9.9 to convert some videos I have in .flv format to .wmv. It worked once but on subsequent attempts it will only convert the audio, even though I followed the same steps as my first successful attempt. Initially I set the Profile to Windows (wmv/asf), that worked once but will no longer. Then I tried MPEG-2, that worked once although it cut off the first couple of seconds of the video but otherwise it was fine. Now that won't work either. It just converts the audio.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Here's the steps I took in case I'm doing something wrong.

1. Select Media, then Convert/Save
2. Select the .flv file then click Convert/Save
3. Select the Profile (I assume Windows (wmv/asf) is the appropriate one.
4. Click in the File box and browse to a location to save to. Type in the filename including .wmv at the end (mymovie.wmv).
5. Click Save.

For some reason it saves the file with a } at the end, but I just rename it and remove it.

Is that what I'm supposed to do?

I checked for updates but it just says there's an error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP by the way.

I have found that the convert/save doesn't do much of anything! I have to download the file to a program called "Freecorder" or Applyan they are identical, but one does have a "flv catcher/converter and I play everything on videolan, once played, it is supposed to be able to use the wmv...If it is from YouTube, I use the ReaPlayer download button that shows up on rollover at top tight of video...that's about the best I can do...I have never seen one become a wmv file until played on vlc...that may be all you have to do! I'll keep watching though to see what others say! If you run across anyone with Verizon dsl and vonage phone, send me a message...Please? Google's downloadhelper is fab, only if you pay for it...or live with their "watermark"
