Reading Divx File over LAN

Postby Archange11 » 05 Jan 2004 02:55

Hey,

I have a LAN w/ a desktop and a 802.11g laptop. I store most of my movies on the desktop and I mount a shared drive. When I play a movie from the shared drive, I get:

ffmpeg: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?)

I know it should work b/c Mplayer OS X 2 can play the file fine. I happen to like VLC better so I'm hoping to get it to work.

thanks

Try increasing the file buffer

preferences -> modules -> access -> access_file

If you don't see the option, check the advanced checkbox first.

What's a good setting for the buffer? I still can't seem to get a divx movie to play well. It would be good for 10 sec w/ a large buffer then starting freezing up and getting the dropping frames message. I got an mpeg to play well tho. Has anyone else tried playing over a shared lan drive?

Maybe the connection is just too slow for divx?
You should simply download the file it has much better performance.

Personally is use NFS to access movies remotely. It works much better under OSX thand Windows Filesharing.
