VLC Wiki Website - VLC Wizard

Postby setchroot » 11 Feb 2009 05:01

Just downloaded/installed VLC for the first time on Windows XP. Started looking at the Wiki website documentation to get going on streaming - and from the very start it appears the documentation is incorrect. My VLC Media Player 0.9.8a has no "Wizard" option even tho I'm using the Windows GUI. Can someone tell me why the documentation does not match the player I just downloaded? (not to mention the trouble I just had to go thru to post this).

Intro
The easier way to start streaming with VLC is by using one of the graphical user interfaces. These are the wxWindows and skinnable interfaces for Windows and GNU/Linux and the Mac OS X native interface.

Streaming using the Wizard
The Streaming/Transcoding Wizard leads you step by step through the process of streaming your media on a network or saving it to your hard drive. This Wizard offers easy to use menus but provides a restricted set of options.
Note: The wizard is only available on the wxWindows interface.

Launching the wizard
To launch the Streaming/Transcoding Wizard open the "File" menu, and select the Wizard menu item.

Yes the documentation is outdated - the older wxWidgets interface had the wizard (VLC 0.8.x and older).

Not go to "Media >> Convert / Save" if you want to so some converting/streaming. You should be able to apply some of the information in the documentation to the new Qt4 interface.

Cheers, Arite.
