hauppage

Postby Guest » 14 Nov 2004 15:07

I have browsed around and read the userguide on videolan.org but I don't understand how to stream the video from my hauppage tv capture card to another computer on my network both using the newest version of videolan..
I downloaded the mini sap server but I don't know how to run it and the tutorials aren't very informative, I would appreciate it if someone could explain how I can go about this..
Thanks.

Is there at least a more user friendly tutorial for setting this up? the one provided stinks.

You can use VLC to stream for your happauge card and the MiniSapServer is only required with VLS.
If you have a graphic interface, you can use the streaming wizard.
Else you have just to follow the streaming howto : http://www.videolan.org/doc/videolan-ho ... #id2533641

If you have more questions, precise what is too complex so that we can improve the documentation.

On the VLC documentation page, there's also a step-by-step to UDP streaming, using the graphical interface. If the Hauppage is outputting something as MPEG already, you don't have to do the transcoding part.

i dont know what a graphic interface is... and i think the only time hauppage is producing an mpeg file is when i pause the video, because then there is a memory buffer, that stores the tv to delay what im watching, but ill check out this guide.

ok, after you follow the links to get the kernel patches, you download a file but it doesn't say what to do with it, it looks like some kind of file containing text, so presumeable you replace another one elsewhere, but it just doesn't say.
the command which is supposed to figure out what chip type your tv card is doesn't work, I figured you had to use that in the cmd app, but it didn't do anything there, so that command they gave is useless.
I don't get how someone can create a "tutorial" that gives you a file ending with gz ( first time ive seen this one) and automatically assume you'll know what to do with it.

Are you using linux or windows ?
The link in the documentation is only for linux.
Under windows, you just have to install the pvr's official hauppauge drivers and then stream with the streaming wizard.

Here's a link to download the drivers for a pvr250-350
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/suppor ... 0-350.html

Once u have the correct TV capture card's driver (eg. WDM audio capture driver and WDM video capture driver) installed onto your
windows XP.

Then it is easy to stream the TV video onto your LAN or other computer.

Open the VLC081's streaming wizard :

File -> Open Capture Device
Select DirectShow
Press the < Refresh list> button,
Video device name = <your capture card's name >
Audio device name = <your catpure card's name>
Video Size = 320x240

you can try other combinations later

Tick the Device properties and tuner properties
Tick the stream output
then press the <Settings> button

From the "Stream output" window,

Tick the UDP,
enter <IP address of the other computer used to watch the TV >
Tick <MPEG TS> as the Encapsulation method.

Tick Videco codec (eg. mp4v 1024kb/s) and Audio codec (eg. mpga and 192kb/s) .

Leave miscellaneous options unchecked.

Press <ok> button from the "stream out" window.

Press <ok> button from the "File Open" window.

Then your video streaming server will be able to stream the TV signal over the LAN to your other computer.

Before u open VLC streaming server , u have to make sure your Haupague TV tuner are tuned to your favourite channel first and then
quit your Haupague TV application.

VLC streaming server and your Haupague tv view/capture application cannot be run at the same time.

have fun !

i tried playing a file to myself and that seemed to work, so it must be the configuration of the hauppage pvr 350 pci card.

In this situation,

U can try to change the TV capture card's WDM driver from the following :

http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/

Please make sure u read through the installation instruction before changing your WDM driver.

The new driver will override your existing driver and
ur Haupauge TV capture or recording application may not work any more.

To change the TV channels, u have to use an application

DSCALER.

cheers,

I have the Hauppauge PVR250 card running on Windows XP Home SP2

Using the newest version results in choppy audio and very choppy video.

I'm able to get things to work perfectly using version 0.7.2 and a bizarre technique a very helpful "guest".
On the servers side you need to have Windows Media Encoder. I am using version 9.

Phase 1
Open WinTV2000 and select which channel you want to watch

Phase 2
1. Open Windows Media Encoder (WME)
2. Select Broadcast a live event and press OK
3. Select your PVR250 card in the Video field.
4. Select Configure
5. Select Video Properties
6. Click OK to close that window
7. Click OK again to close that window
8. Exit out of WME

Phase 3
Open VLC
1. Select File/Streaming Wizard
2. Select 1. Open
3. On the line with "Video Device Name, click on Refresh list.
4. Select your Hauppuage Card
5. Select OK
6. Select how you want to stream ( I have been using UDP )
7. Click Start

Phase 4
On your client just open the stream.

When mucking around I occasionally lose the sound and I need to start from Phase 2.

I actually prefer the steps in version 0.7.2 to the ones in 0.8.1, but then since it doesn't work in 0.8.1, it doesn't matter.

Wishes:
1. Sure would be nice to not have to go through phases 1 & 2.
2. Sure would be nice to be able to change the channel in VLC

Questions:
I would like to stream to Windows Media Player, anyone know how?
