playing SRT with a burnt DVD or an ISO file?

Hello!!

I'm new to VLC. I have an *ISO file - which I burnt to DVD (before I found out VLC can play an ISO) and a *.srt file. I can't seem to play them together beyond the first chapter. I've tried to play the DVD *without* the menus but get this error:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvdsimple://E:\'. Check the log for details.

I've also tried just playing the ISO file with the SRT but no dice.

Help?

p.s. ahem- I also don't know how to check the log..........?
